CBG Building Company/CRC CARES Sponsors 15th Anniversary of Camp NAWIC
CBG Building Company had the opportunity to sponsor San Diego’s 15th Annual Camp NAWIC, a week-long program that introduces young women in grades eight to twelve to the construction industry through hands-on learning. Throughout the week, 100 female students developed self-confidence and communication skills while learning and practicing the skills of carpentry, tile, glass, electrical, solar, plumbing, mechanical, survey, and heavy equipment operation.
"Everyone you see [teaching] here is in the construction industry whether contractor or subcontractor or a tradesman or woman providing expertise," said Sarah Tull, a Senior Project Executive at CBG. Tull has participated in Camp NAWIC since its inception 15 years ago. She is currently a Camp NAWIC committee member and trustee of the Future Construction Leaders Foundation, the nonprofit that provides the program.
Camp NAWIC is designed to challenge stereotypes and empower young women in the construction industry, encouraging girls to explore and excel in fields traditionally underrepresented by women. “There’s only about 10 percent of the construction industry that are women and even fewer as tradeswomen at about three percent, we should always be exposing the younger generation to all of the available industries to show them it’s a viable career path,” Tull noted.
CBG and CRC CARES are proud to sponsor Camp NAWIC and join it in its mission to reshape perceptions and nurture the next generation of women leaders in construction.
