Fifteenth Annual CARES Charity Golf Tournament Brings in Record-Breaking Donations

On November 14 and 15, CBG Building Company, CRC Companies, and Clark Construction Group hosted the 15th annual CARES Open charity golf tournament at Maderas Golf Club in San Diego, California. This year’s event raised a record-setting $408,000 to benefit organizations such as Sisu Academy, Cancer Angels of San Diego, and Us4Warriors. The CRC CARES Foundation has raised over $4.4 million dollars from this charity golf tournament alone since its inception in 2005 in support of more than 130 community-serving groups to date.

Seventy construction sponsors, including subcontractors, industry partners, and consultants, partnered with tournament hosts to put on a successful two-day tournament for 256 golfers. Participants enjoyed dinner and a formal awards reception following each day of golf.

Sisu Academy, Us4Warriors Foundation, and Cancer Angels of San Diego were the chief beneficiaries of the tournament this year. Sisu Academy is the first all-girls tuition-free boarding high school with an embedded incubator fueled by entrepreneurs and seed capital to create an immersive learning environment that funds all operational costs.

“Sisu Academy is so blessed to be connected to the CRC CARES family and receive crucial program support,” said Jabez LeBret, Sisu Academy co-founder and Chief of Schools. “We are touched by the generosity of everyone in attendance to support a program like ours that provides housing, food, counseling support, and education for young women in our county who have run out of options. CBG, CRC, and Clark Construction are truly companies who care deeply for the community and it shows.”

Us4 Warriors Foundation is a 100% volunteer non-profit dedicated to helping veterans, active-duty military, and their families to overcome hardships while contributing their unique experiences, training, and leadership skills to society.

Tony Stewart, CEO and co-founder of Us4Warriors, remarked: "We are so grateful for the generosity of the Clark Family of Companies and the amazing community of builders and service providers who joined together to make the event such a success. They graciously bestowed upon us funding that will help thousands of military veterans and their families live stronger lives."

Cancer Angels of San Diego is also a 100% volunteer organization, established to address the financial needs of Stage IV cancer patients facing severe financial hardship.

"It was a banner year for CRC CARES, not only hosting our 15th golf tournament in San Diego, but also raising our highest dollar value to date,” said CRC CARES Foundation coordinator, Veronica Natividad.  “We look forward to providing additional grants throughout the coming year."

CANCER ANGELS OF SAN DIEGO

Cancer Angels of San Diego (CASD) is a 100% all-volunteer 501(C)(3) organization that was established to address the financial needs of Stage IV cancer patients facing severe financial hardship. At Stage IV, cancer spreads to several places in the body and requires ongoing treatment for life. Since patients can no longer work, they are unable to pay for the basic necessities of life, including rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, gas and car repairs, etc. CASD distributes funds to landlords, mortgage holders, and utility companies, offers gift cards from grocery stores, provides gas cards from gas stations, gift cards to clothing stores, and funds for other services that are essential for living. Cancer Angels of San Diego does not provide money directly to clients. Payments are made only to the provider(s) of the services needed by the client.

SISU ACADEMY

Sisu Academy is the first all-girls, tuition-free boarding high school with an embedded incubator fueled by entrepreneurs and seed capital, creating an immersive learning environment that funds all operational costs. Sisu provides an environment with wraparound support services for those in need, including healthy food, farming, project-based learning, skills training, STEM education, and counseling at no cost to the student. Sisu’s goal is to add more students from the local Southern California community in the coming years and reach a full capacity of 350 students within five years. They are beginning as an all-girls school while leaving the door open for future projects that can also impact young men from the community.

US4WARRIORS

Us4Warriors is a 100% volunteer 501(C)(3) non-profit foundation dedicated to helping veterans, active-duty military, and their families to overcome hardships and contribute their unique experiences, training, and leadership skills to society. They help 100% of warriors and their families, not just one select group. Led by non-compensated directors who are also veterans, Us4Warriors ensures the funds go where they are needed most. The organization doesn’t just “give fish” to veterans to “feed for a day.” They lift up veterans when needed, and offer or fund programs to empower them to “fish for themselves.” Us4Warriors brings communities together, raises money to help military families in need, helps individuals transition from military to civilian life, and supports veteran-owned businesses.
