CBG Hosts 16th Annual Clark/CRC CARES Golf Tournament

On November 11 and 12, CBG Building Company, CRC Companies, and Clark Construction hosted the 16th annual Clark/CRC CARES Open charity golf tournament at Maderas Golf Club. This year’s event raised $396,000 to benefit organizations such as Team River Runner, Hugs & Bags, and Miracle League of San Diego. The CRC CARES Foundation has raised $5 million from this charity golf tournament alone since its inception in 2005 in support of more than 140 community-serving groups to date.

After postponing the 2020 event due to COVID-19 precautions, tournament hosts were eager to raise money for charities in need. This year, more than 60 construction sponsors–including subcontractors, industry partners, and consultants–partnered with CBG, CRC, and Clark to put on a successful two-day tournament for 256 golfers and celebrate in person. Participants enjoyed each other’s company during dinner and a formal awards reception following each day of golf.

Team River Runner, Hugs & Bags, and Miracle League of San Diego were the chief beneficiaries of the tournament this year. Team River Runner was founded in 2004 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center with the mission to provide all veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, and community through adventure and adaptive paddle sports.

"The funds generated by the golf tournament helped TRR San Diego provide the large local Veteran population and their families opportunities to find health, healing, and new challenges through adaptive paddle sports" said Dale Osborn, San Diego Chapter Coordinator.

Hugs & Bags is a community outreach program that provides essential items to San Diego’s homeless and underprivileged. Jacqueline Penhos, Founder, remarked: "Hugs & Bags, A Love Movement is grateful and blessed for the generosity and honor of being chosen as one of the non-profit organizations in San Diego assisting students, unhoused families, and our military community. We will be able to award scholarships, increase dignity, and continue to help the people of San Diego with their basic human needs: clothes, shoes, toiletries, meals, school supplies, as well as mental health support. Immense gratitude to CRC CARES Foundation and the Clark companies for being socially responsible and caring about the grassroots organizations in San Diego."

The Miracle League of San Diego provides children with special needs the opportunity to play baseball in an organized league. Dan Engel, Co-Founder and Treasurer, stated: "The Miracle League of San Diego is extraordinarily grateful for the amazing generosity of the CRC CARES Foundation. It was an honor to participate in this wonderful event and to meet Dale and Jacqueline whose organizations also do important work in the community. [CRC CARES’] passion for philanthropy is unmatched in the San Diego area, as evidenced by the broad participation they brought to the two-day event. We look forward to sharing the impact your donation has on our organization with your entire team of companies, employees, and vendors."

TEAM RIVER RUNNER

Founded in 2004 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, we now offer weekly paddling sessions in more than 60 locations across the nation. Team River Runner (TRR) is more than an adaptive sports program; it is an opportunity for veterans, their family members, and everyone in the community to participate It’s an opportunity to enjoy nature and realize its social, physical, and emotional benefits, whether it’s tackling whitewater rapids or paddling on peaceful flat-water. It’s an environment that facilitates connection, allowing veterans to reunite with their families and forge relationships with those who have endured similar pain. TRR creates purpose and community service. Our veterans are on the river to recovery.

HUGS AND BAGS

Hugs & Bags started as an idea to raise awareness for San Diego’s homeless population. The first event was hosted San Diego’s Queen Bee’s community center located in North Park. Over time with the leadership of Ms. Jacqueline Penhos and the dedication of countless volunteers this monthly event has grown from a concept to a love moment. The goal of Hugs & Bags isn’t to give a hand-out but a hand-up to those that have fallen on hard times by providing all basic needs along with the human touch in the form of a hug. Our primary population has grown from Homeless Teens, Veterans to Immigrants, Single parents and anyone who may need assistance.
